OMI THE NEW JAMAICAN HEARTTHOB

He has the essence of American R&B singer Neyo; while boasting a nostalgic Reggae sound with a youthful twist. OMI first made his way on the Jamaican music scene in 2012 with his breakout single " Cheer Leader" the media circuit went wild drawing to Omi like a moth to a flame; wondering where did this kid come from. In no time at all "Cheer Leader" was being played by most major sound systems, radio dis jocks, and was being highlighted by main stream media. The song soon made its way onto two of Jamaica's most reputable charts that span outside the Jamaica boarders; hitting number one for six consecutive weeks, and lets not for get about young Jamaica who made this tune their ultimate sing along tune.

Even the little island of Hawaii, got in on the Omi craze; grooving to the rhythmic sound of "Cheer Leader"; fans of the song even took to youtube; creating covers postings of their own rendition of the song; making the song one of the most talked about in that region for 2012. Team OMI wasted no time in releasing the second single "standing on all threes" causing a domino effect with history repeating itself, with this new song being just as successful.

Sky is the limit with this young heartthrob who has steadily be come the the choice of the ladies with a European tour in the works, and a team of veteran strategist lead by the infamous Clifton "Specialist" Dillon who is known to produce hit maker who became world renowned stars; the stars may have aligned them selves for Omi; as his career seems to show all signs of success.

Writing this article give some what of a throw back feel to me, as we both share the same alma mater. I remember watching the young Omi singing every chance he could get during lunch breaks, for groups of girls or even in the classroom so it was no surprise that he has reach these level of stardom, because he made real life his practice stage before he touch the real one. Road Show Ja dropped in on OMI and his team for a one on one session and this is what he had to say:

DD: When you first came on the scene many people were questioning if you were a Jamaican, mainly because of your sound. How would you describe your style of music?

OMI: My style in particular is a marriage between the old and the new, paying tribute to the past to assure the future and having a distinctive sound that the people will readily identify.

DD: When did you discover that you could truly sing?

OMI: I discovered that I could truly sing when Clifton “Specialist” Dillon became my manager, I knew then that I had something special.

DD: Cheerleader had major success here in Jamaica and around the world. What other singles can we look out for?

OMI: I have a few songs out, you can go to my website at www.omimusiconline.com and visit my you tube channel to take a listen. Some are not officially released, but I like to keep the fans entertained until time to go full blast.

DD: Can we look forward to seeing you collaborate with any international acts anytime soon?

OMI: In terms of collabs, you will most definitely see this happen in short order both locally and internationally. As a matter of fact, I have a collab releasing shortly featuring a very popular Dancehall artiste so keep a look out.

DD: What are your plans for the rest of 2014 and where can we see you next?

OMI: My plan for 2014 is work, work, and more work, and fans can go out and purchase your plane tickets from now as there will be a European summer tour coming up also a few shows in the US Lol; but I sincerely hope that I will be performing for my real jam down fans very soon.

DD:  Specialist has worked with some of the biggest Jamaican acts who's seen major international success. What is it like working with him?

OMI: Working with Mr. Dillon is more than a privilege it is truly an honor, apart from being a mentor and a fully competent business partner he is a really good person, and my Oufah family is the best straight up.

Road Show Ja can only expect the best from OMI and his team. and would like to thank everyone for dropping everything to accommodate this interview. We close with; there are times when you know your in the presence of a star, but we often times will ignore it, but this is not one of them we see a true talent in the making and Road Show Ja would like to acknowledge that and tip our hats to Omi.
